Tips on Measuring, Putting on, and Maintaining Your Compression Socks
Measuring Your Compression Socks
-
1.
Measure the circumference of the ankle at the narrowest part of the ankle (just above the ankle bone).
-
2.
Measure the circumference of the calf at the widest part of the calf.
-
3.
Confirm your shoe size.
How to Put on Your Compression Socks
-
1. Prepare your feet & sock
- Sit down somewhere stable.
- Make sure your feet are dry — moisture makes compression socks harder to slide on.
- Hold the sock by the cuff and check that the heel is facing the right direction.
-
2. Turn the sock halfway inside out
- Slide your hand inside the sock until you reach the toe.
- Pinch the back of the sock above the heal, and turn the sock inside out, keeping the pocket of the foot right side in. This creates a “shorter” sock that’s easier to put your foot into.
-
3. Slide your toes into the toe pocket
- Place your toes into the toe section and gently pull it over the ball of your foot.
- Make sure the toe area is smooth and not twisted.
-
4. Pull the sock over your heel
- With the toe section in place, use both hands to pull the inverted portion up and over your heel.
- This is usually the tightest part — take your time and avoid tugging from the top only.
-
5. Unroll and smooth the sock up your ankle
- Once the heel is in, pull the remaining fabric up your ankle until the sock is fully unrolled.
- Smooth out any wrinkles or bunching — compression works best when the fabric is flat and even.
